Art Invasion: a painting exhibition by Costas Evangelatos


We are delighted to hold an art exhibition at the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Leeds, by the artist Costas Evangelatos from Athens, Greece. The paintings are inspired by posters and presentations from the 18th Symposium on Topological Quantum Information that took place in Athens, May 2015. Costas has participated also in the 16th, 17th, 18th and 20th Symposia (Athens, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016) with talks on the use of mathematical and physical symbols in art as well as with painting exhibitions during the poster presentations.
The exhibition will take place between 20th and 27th of March 2017.
Exhibits related to the latest Nobel Prize in Physics will also be presented.

COSTAS EVANGELATOS: Artist and art theorist

Costas Evangelatos was born in Argostoli,island of Cefalonia, Greece, in 1957.

He studied law at National University of Athens and subsequently painting and aesthetic theory of modern art at Manhattan N.Y. University. From 1986 until 1993 he was the artistic director of the DADA Gallery in Athens. In 1990 founded the art group ART STUDIO "EST".

Along with painting, he has worked internationally in the fields of Performance, Body Art, Happening and Mail art. He has presented sections of his works in solo exhibitions in Athens, Rochester, New York City, Thessaloniki, Arezzo, Avignon, Chantilly, Paris, Glasgow, Amsterdam, Nicosia, etc.

He has participated in many group exhibitions and international artistic meetings in Paris, Barcelona, Warsaw, Gothenburg, Amiens, Rome, Moscow, Santiago, Buenos - Aires, New York, Los Angeles, Seatle, etc. The meeting organizers have published also books about Costas, aesthetic essays, poems in nine collections, editions (“Apopeira”and "Sylloges" editions, Athens), lithographic works: ink bodygraphics (Dada Art Gallery, Athens, BOA Editions N.Y.), art books and calendars.

He has lectured on various art topics in Greece and internationally. He is a member of scientific and artistic organizations and a senior member of the Greece’s Chamber of Fine Arts.

His works can be found in several collections, as in the Art Institute of the Central Bank of Greece, the “Museum of the City of Athens”, the  Art Gallery of the Philosophy School in the National University of Athens, the "ART" –Macedonian Fine Art Union, the Gallery  of the Macedonian Studies Society, the Municipal Gallery of Athens, the American College of Greece (ACG ART COLLECTION), the Photographic Archive of the Benaki Museum, the headquarters of the Greek Army Navy, the Art  Foundation of Archbishop Makarios in Nicosia, the collection of Patriarchate of Alexandria, the Corfu Reading Society,  the Ionian University at Corfu, the Municipal Gallery of Corfu, the Greek Embassy in Paris-France, the Greek and Cypriot Consulate in Paris, the University FORDHAM at Lincoln Center, New York, at the collection of Leeds University, U.K. as well as in many private collections in Greece, France and U.S.A.
